Name: Onkardeep Singh Bhatia
Age: 19
Job Title: Data Analyst
Background:
Before attending Loughborough University I did voluntary work. One of my major achievements was being involved in setting up a non-profit organisation called the “Derby Sikh Youth Association”.
Currently, I am studying Management Sciences BSC (Hons) sandwich degree at Loughborough.
Differences between university and working at PSL:
The skills I have learnt at university have helped me in my role at PSL, such as report writing and producing presentations.
The main difference between working within the business world and studying at university is the lack of holidays! University students have more time off than full-time employees.
What is your role?
I ensure that research is conducted in a non-biased way and my role is to analyse PSL’s clients’ certificates, budgets and properties. The results from the study will help towards service charges being managed more effectively and efficiently. This will hopefully promote accurate benchmarking standards within the service charge industry and in turn ensure fairness and transparency.
What’s it like to work here?
The atmosphere is different from that of university, the organisational culture at PSL is very relaxed but everyone is committed to their job so you can still have fun whilst working.
My work is not overly demanding, however, a lot of persistence and patience is needed in order to complete the data research. The fact that the work carried out by me might have a significant impact on this industry gives me a lot of pride and self-belief. Having tasks assigned to me and ensuring that those tasks are completed to the highest standard is also very motivating.
In my spare time:
Keeping fit and active is something that motivates me. I do martial arts and play various racquet sports of which badminton is my favourite. Additional interests include looking for business opportunities and focusing on the spiritual aspect of life, which is often taken for granted.
What next after PSL?
After my time at PSL I will go back to university to undertake the second year of my degree. During the third year of my course I will do a one year industrial placement, I would like to work somewhere in London at a consultancy company. After completing my degree I hope to work in an IT management/consultancy firm to gain valuable experience.
