Age: 46
Job title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
I've been with the company: Three years
Background: Previously worked at a building service consultancy.
My role:
I undertake service charge consultancy in the building services dept of PSL.
My work involves resolving service charge disputes on behalf of tenants and landlords. I also do M&E (maintenance and electrical) design consultancy for landlords and tenants. This means designing air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems and electrical systems from scratch. this is typically needed when a tenant is moving into a new space or when a building is undergoing a refit.
My clients include King Sturge, Cameron MacKenna, Standard Life and Lloyds TSB.
What's it like to work here:
I enjoy bringing service charge disputes and queries to a satisfactory conclusion for all parties and liaising with landlords, tenants and managing agents. I like the fact that my job is definitely not office based, I am usually out of the office two or three times a week and travel all over the UK from Manchester and London to Birmingham and Jersey. As a mechanical engineer I am fortunate that my work is a lot more involved in financial and commercial issues for our clients. I can use my mechanical knowledge to build cases and to negotiate on service charge issues. I get to work with lots of colleagues from different departments and have gained a lot of knowledge and expertise from these close working relationships.
In my spare time:
I have a windsurf board - although I don't get out as much as I would like! I also enjoy badminton and 5-a-side football.
