RICS Scotland Commercial Property Service Charges Seminar: The Tenant’s Perspective

27.05.10

David Barrass, Managing Director of Property Solutions, was invited to put forth the tenant’s perspective on service charges at this year’s RICS Scotland commercial property service charges seminar.

The latest Commercial Property Service Charges seminar was held at Burness LLP, Edinburgh on Thursday 27 May 2010. The agenda was primarily to shed light on both the landlord and tenant’s perspectives on service charges and how their relationship has evolved since the introduction of the RICS Service Charge Code of Practice.

Crowned as the ‘Tenant’s Champion’, Property Solutions continues to drive standards in the commercial office service charges industry. The Company is renowned for its pioneering research initiatives into accounting and disclosure practices of managing agents, the impact of the recession on the commercial service charge market and the progress of the industry towards best practice, proposed by RICS.

David Barrass’ presentation opened with a review of the main economic drivers within the industry, with specific focus on the changing demographics of the UK, technology and the ever increasing public sector debt. This was followed with an assessment of the impact these factors have on the main industry stakeholders. It was brought to a close with a summary of the key findings from recent research initiatives, driven by Property Solutions, in collaboration with London Business School, Kingston University and Loughborough University.
