Property Solutions is campaigning for the better regulation of service charges.
As part of this Property Solutions sponsored Loughborough University
Business School in 2003 to undertake a study examining data between
1998-2005 from 161 buildings as well as data from additional office space.
The findings from these studies showed discrepancies and variability in the
cost per sq. foot and suggested that £7.10 should be used as an action limit
triggering an investigation into the costs involved. The report estimated the
service charge market now to be worth in excess of £4.4 billion.
The RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) has launched its Service
Charge Code of Practice which comes into effect in April 2007.
In response to the RICS Code this seminar examined issues relating to the
code. Dr John Calvert from Loughborough University Business School
announced the results of the latest study which provided the framework for
the day’s speakers representing the views of the landlord, tenant and legal
profession. |
