Richard heads up the Commercial Property Litigation Unit which comprises 6 other full-time specialist lawyers practising in this area.

Chambers 2007 states that the Property Litigation Team are known as "Bristol's classiest shop" and home to "a great crowd of experts" whose clients endorse them for speaking "very clear and plain language". Above all, the lawyers have the ability and drive to get to the heart of the matter.

Richard is described as the "effective and smart" group head and an expert in all aspects of freehold and leasehold disputes. Recent examples of work include:-

• High net worth dilapidations dispute
• Significant service charge dispute involving consortium of commercial tenants
• Dispute over construction of options terms in substantial commercial transaction
• Advice on construction of and implication of complicated rent review provision

Richard has lectured on numerous subjects including specialist areas of Landlord & Tenant, Real Property and secured lending. He is a member of the Property Litigation Association. He also heads up the dedicated Commercial Service Charge Team at Burges Salmon and has advised on a number of significant commercial service charge disputes including capital refurbishment projects, sinking fund issues and forfeiture related matters.
